Will AI Destroy Mankind? ft. Allum Bokhari

Restoring Order - EP 387

Allum Bokhari is the managing director at the Foundation for Freedom Online. He is the author of #DELETED: Big Tech’s Battle to Erase a Movement and Subvert Democracy. He joins me to discuss his work, artificial intelligence, effective altruism, and more.

Allum first recounts his origin story. We learn about his involvement in Gamergate and work with Breitbart in the early days of MAGA. He tells us a little about his work at FFO, and we agree that Trump deserves ample credit for undoing social media censorship. We then switch gears to discuss artificial intelligence. Sam Altman and Dario Amodei have been in the news lately – what’s that about? We discuss AI alarmism and review some of these alarmists’ predictions. I ask Allum if he believes they’re sincere; he says yes. Toward the end of the first half, I ask Allum about effective altruism, a subculture to which many key people in not only AI, but Silicon Valley more generally, belong.

In the second half of the show (available to subscribers), we continue our discussion of effective altruism. Allum argues that right-wing EAs are outliers – that most are left-wing. We consider the implications of left-wing polycule enthusiasts developing the regulatory framework for technology they control. What would such a framework look like? Allum and I discuss the international nature of AI regulation. I ask one final question: How has the right responded to AI stuff so far?

I bid Allum farewell and move on to an equally important topic: National Cheeseburger Day. I briefly create a burger tier-list and offer my thoughts on this important American culinary creation. Later, I talk about Dan Hollaway, who was attempting to define the bounds of conservative discourse while his wife’s OnlyFans was having a 50% off sale. I review some of Dana Loesch’s nutty tweets. What does all this say about the state of social conservatism? Toward the end of the show, I talk about Erick Erickson’s latest article and the growing attempts to gatekeep the right. How should we respond to these attacks? Tune in to find out.
