Writer and Twitter post eugyppius returns to the show for a discussion on AfD, European politics, BAP’s latest article, and the differences between immigration in Europe and America.
We begin by discussing AfD’s recent win. I then ask eugyppius to outline AfD’s major policies aside from immigration restriction, which is what the party is best known for. We talk about the state of German politics, which, as eugyppius explains, is unstable at the moment. Next, we zoom out a bit to discuss the state of Europe overall. Does eugyppius see promising developments elsewhere in Europe? Toward the end of the first half, I ask eugyppius why so many Europeans on right-wing Twitter have soured on Trump.
In the second half of the show (available to subscribers), we continue our discussion of the European right’s perspective on Trump. We recount the Greenland episode and talk about the Iran war’s impact on Europe. Later, I bring up BAP’s latest essay. I ask eugyppius if some of the trends BAP documented in his piece are evident in Europe. We discuss how well Europe and America have succeeded at integrating immigrants. I argue that in America, immigrants actually assimilate relatively well – and that’s the problem, whereas in Europe, many migrants remain unemployed, living in ethnic enclaves on welfare. Toward the end of the show, I ask eugyppius if he believes that mass immigration is primarily driven by economic factors. If not economics, then what? Tune in to find out.
