I’m joined by Dr. Thomas Fleming (Chronicles Magazine EIC from 1985-2015) for a wide-ranging discussion on the history of conservatism, Trump, and civilizational decline. In the first half, we learn how Dr. Fleming became a man of the right. We discuss civilizational decline: its nature and causes, including technology. Dr. Fleming then outlines the many differences between the Old Right and neoconservatism.
In the second half, we continue our discussion of the American conservatism, with Dr. Fleming recounting the history of the neoconservative purges. We then shift gears to discuss Trump. Does Dr. Fleming feel vindicated after seeing paleocon ideas win out in the end? He also offers his thoughts on what to expect in a second Trump administration, and whether, even in the best case scenario, American decline can fully be reversed. Toward the end of the show, we discuss the Ukraine war and Dr. Fleming's latest book.
(Please note: For whatever reason, Zoom decided to lower the video quality of this recording, despite the fact that I didn’t change any settings. I appear to have resolved the issue for future episodes.)
