As 2021 nears completion, Joe Biden finds himself in an unenviable position. With his approval rating continuing to tank – not just among Republicans, but Democrats and independents as well – the aging president seems incapable of delivering on his various campaign promises. The challenges he faces are many: a poor economy, difficulty getting his agenda passed in Congress, repeated public gaffes, a blowout for his party in Virginia, and, strangely, a popular slogan involving some guy named Brandon.
“Let’s go Brandon” has been heard around the country. Its origin can be traced to a NASCAR race on October 2, where a crowd of boisterous fans shouted “F— Joe Biden” in unison. An uncomfortable NBC reporter, who was interviewing victorious NASCAR driver Brandon Brown, suggested that the crowd was in fact chanting something else: “Let’s go Brandon.” Amusingly, NASCAR and NBC have in response announced that they will now be doing their best to limit “ambient crowd noise” during interviews, but the damage has already been done.
This slogan has since been heard at sports games, campaign rallies, and other public events. But it isn’t just rank-and-file conservatives shouting “Let’s go Brandon” – even politicians, such as Ron DeSantis and Ted Cruz have associated themselves with this slogan.
