Kyle Rittenhouse Voices Support for BLM
Kyle Rittenhouse was never "our guy" but we were right to support him
It was recently announced that Tucker Carlson has been working on a documentary with Kyle Rittenhouse. While most people right of center generally like, or even adore, both Kyle and Tucker, their collaboration has already rubbed many people the wrong way.
In a clip from the documentary, which is set to air tonight, a newly exonerated Kyle Rittenhouse made a few disappointing statements. “This case has nothing to do with race,” Kyle said. “It never had anything to do with race. It had to do with the right to self-defense.” I’ll be charitable here: This is half-true. Kyle’s motivations in driving to Kenosha on that fateful day likely had nothing to do with race. However, one cannot in good faith deny that the situation had racial implications, as Kyle Rittenhouse was hated by the media and liberals in large part because he is white.
Kyle continued, saying, “I’m not a racist person. I support the BLM movement. I support peacefully demonstrating.” There are many ways these statements could be interpreted. Perhaps Kyle is just clarifying that he holds no hatred in his heart toward people of other races, and that he supports BLM’s right to peaceful protest. The former is defensible, whereas the latter is a little more dubious. Black Lives Matter, after all, was responsible for widespread violence and property destruction – and its aims are decidedly unconservative. However we interpret this, though, it’s clearly not what we want to hear from the kid we supported so strongly throughout his ordeal.
Nevertheless, a few things must be said. First, there was never any reason to believe that Kyle Rittenhouse was “our guy” in the sense that he privately holds dissident right views. By all appearances, Kyle has been, from the very beginning of his ordeal, a standard MAGA conservative. Anyone under the impression that he was BASED and RED-PILLED on a wide array of esoteric right-wing issues should take this as a reality check. Regardless, we were right to defend Kyle. He’s a 17-year-old kid, who defended himself against the most depraved scum imaginable. Law-abiding citizens should have the right to defend themselves against violent criminals, whatever said citizens might believe in politically.
